About the EP
“Ecstasy” is a project by Nigerian singer and rapper Lil Kesh, released on November 19, 2020 through YAGI Records. The eight-track EP marked his return with a focused collection of records after a period away from the music scene. Lil Kesh described the project as an opportunity to recreate himself creatively and put his heart and soul into the music.
The EP features Fireboy DML, Young Jonn, Shaybo and Naira Marley, with the tracklist moving between energetic street records, Afropop melodies, romantic songs and dance-oriented sounds. The project includes “YAGI Level,” “Agbani Darego,” “Love Like This,” “All The Way,” “Try,” “Downtown Girl,” “Service” and “Opor.”
The Sound
Ecstasy reflects Lil Kesh’s ability to move between Afropop, street-hop, hip-hop and dancehall-influenced sounds without losing the energetic delivery associated with his music. The opening track, “YAGI Level,” leans into rap and drill influences, giving the EP an assertive introduction before the project moves into more melodic territory.
“Agbani Darego” and “Love Like This” explore romantic and sensual themes, with Fireboy DML adding his melodic style to the latter. “Try” brings Young Jonn into the project, while “Downtown Girl” featuring Shaybo adds another rhythmic and rap-focused dimension. The closing track, “Opor,” features Naira Marley and returns to the energetic street-pop atmosphere associated with Lil Kesh’s earlier work.
What the EP Is About
The project touches on love, attraction, confidence, ambition, self-belief and personal reinvention. Lil Kesh uses different sides of his personality across the eight songs, moving from confident rap performances to softer records centred on romance and relationships.
There is also a clear sense of renewed confidence running through the project. Following his earlier Y.A.G.I album, Ecstasy presents Lil Kesh in a period of creative repositioning, combining the street energy that helped establish his name with a more varied approach to contemporary Nigerian pop music.
The relatively short tracklist keeps the project direct, with each song contributing a different mood while maintaining Lil Kesh’s recognizable vocal character and rhythmic delivery.
