Asake – Ololade EP

About the EP

“Ololade Asake” is the debut EP by Nigerian singer Asake, released in February 2022 through YBNL Nation. The four-track project introduced a distinctive sound built around Afrobeats, Fuji influences, Yoruba musical traditions and Asake’s energetic vocal style. The EP runs for roughly 11 minutes and features Olamide on “Omo Ope.”

The project contains four songs: “Trabaye,” “Sungba,” “Omo Ope” featuring Olamide, and “Baba God.” Together, they present an early picture of the sound that would become central to Asake’s rise within Nigeria’s contemporary street-pop scene.

The Sound

“Ololade Asake” blends traditional Yoruba influences with modern Afrobeats production. Asake’s delivery combines melodic singing, energetic chants and rhythmic phrasing, giving the songs a distinctive street-oriented character.

Magicsticks produced “Trabaye,” “Sungba” and “Omo Ope,” while Niphkeys handled the production of “Baba God.” The production allows Asake’s vocals to remain prominent while incorporating the bouncing rhythms and Fuji-inspired elements that helped distinguish his early recordings.

What the EP Is About

The project focuses heavily on gratitude, ambition, faith, enjoyment and the experience of building a better life. “Baba God” carries a clear spiritual dimension, while “Trabaye” combines worship-oriented ideas with contemporary street-pop energy.

“Sungba” moves into a more celebratory space, while “Omo Ope” brings Asake and Olamide together for a record centred on success, appreciation and the excitement surrounding Asake’s emergence. The combination gives the EP a balance between personal faith and the confidence of an artist stepping into a larger musical space.

“Ololade Asake” also captures an important starting point in Asake’s catalogue. Released shortly after Olamide’s YBNL connection with the singer became a major part of his career story, the project established the musical identity that he would develop further on his 2022 debut album, Mr. Money With The Vibe.
