About the Song
“IKA” is a hard-hitting rap collaboration by Yomi Blaze featuring Olamide, released in December 2018 as part of the collaborative YBNL Mafia Family project. The record introduced Yomi Blaze’s aggressive rap style to a wider audience while bringing him together with Olamide for one of the project’s most energetic collaborations.
The song was produced by Pheelz and built around the raw, street-oriented rap sound associated with YBNL’s music during that period. “IKA” also marked an important moment in Yomi Blaze’s early career as one of the newer rappers associated with the YBNL movement.
The Sound
“IKA” is driven by an up-tempo Nigerian rap production that gives both artists plenty of space for lyrical delivery. Yomi Blaze takes the lead with energetic Yoruba-infused bars, wordplay and repeated chants, while Olamide adds his own forceful verse to the record.
The production keeps the focus on rhythm and rap performance rather than a heavily melodic arrangement. The result is a gritty street-rap record with the kind of intensity that fits the competitive spirit of Nigerian hip-hop.
What the Song Is About
The song is largely centred on confidence, individuality and proving oneself as a rapper. Yomi Blaze presents himself as an artist with the ability to stand apart from his peers, using bold declarations and competitive rap language throughout his performance.
Olamide reinforces that energy with a verse that matches the song’s confrontational attitude. Their performances create the feeling of two rappers showing their skills over a beat designed for bars, swagger and raw delivery.
