About the EP
Àjàlá Travel is an eight-track project by Nigerian rapper Oladips, released on June 27, 2022 through The Dipsciples Music and distributed by Updatebaze. Rather than following the conventional format of an EP with completely different songs, the project takes one central record and explores it through a collection of remixes.
The original “Àjàlá Travel” arrived earlier in April 2022 and became the foundation for the project. Oladips uses the record to express ambition, movement and the desire to experience a bigger world, themes that connect strongly with the title and its reference to the idea of travelling widely.
The Sound
The defining feature of Àjàlá Travel is the way Oladips places the same musical idea inside different Nigerian music styles. The EP includes the original version alongside a remix with Zlatan, a Super Remix featuring Ice Prince, a Street Remix with Portable, an Abuja Remix featuring Odumodublvck and Magnito, a Wazobia Remix with Zoro and ClassiQ, a Fuji Remix featuring Pasuma, and an Amapiano Remix.
This structure gives the project a broad sound despite being centred on one song. The different collaborators bring their own delivery, regional references and musical personalities, allowing the central concept to move naturally between Nigerian hip-hop, street-pop, Fuji and Amapiano.
The remix format also makes the EP feel collaborative. Instead of simply adding guest appearances to separate songs, Oladips creates different interpretations of the same record and allows each featured artist to give it a new character.
What the EP Is About
At its heart, “Àjàlá Travel” is about aspiration and the desire to move beyond one’s current environment. The idea of travel works as both a literal concept and a metaphor for personal progress. Oladips presents the journey as one driven by ambition, curiosity and the determination to experience more of what life has to offer.
The project’s title draws from the Nigerian cultural idea of Àjàlá, a traveller associated with seeing different places and experiencing life beyond familiar surroundings. That concept gives the EP a wider meaning than simply travelling for leisure. It becomes connected to growth, opportunity and the pursuit of a better life.
The different remixes expand that message through distinct voices. Zlatan brings his street-pop energy, Ice Prince adds a more established Nigerian hip-hop perspective, Portable contributes his raw street style, while the Abuja, Wazobia and Fuji versions introduce different regional and cultural flavours.
Àjàlá Travel therefore stands out as a creative experiment built around one strong idea. By reshaping the same song across multiple styles and collaborations, Oladips turns a single record into an entire project with different interpretations.
