About the EP
“Born Sinner” is a five-track EP by Nigerian rapper Kudos Alujoonu, released on April 8, 2021. The project includes “Grace,” “Letter to God,” “Mixed Feelings,” “Sinner” and “Forgive Me,” creating a compact body of work built around personal reflection and the realities of trying to make progress while dealing with life’s complications.
Across the EP, Kudos presents a side of himself that is ambitious but conscious of his imperfections. Rather than separating success from the difficulties that come with pursuing it, he allows both sides to exist within the same project.
The Sound
Born Sinner sits comfortably within Nigerian hip-hop and street-oriented Afrosounds, with Kudos relying heavily on lyrical delivery and storytelling. His music combines English, Nigerian Pidgin and Yoruba expressions, giving the project a distinctly local character while keeping the writing accessible.
The songs differ in mood but share a relatively direct approach to songwriting. “Grace” introduces the project with a reflective perspective on survival, work and divine favour, while “Letter to God” becomes more personal as Kudos addresses the difficulties and pressure associated with chasing his ambitions.
“Mixed Feelings” brings a more restless energy, dealing with the uncertainty that can accompany progress and changing relationships. “Sinner” and “Forgive Me” move further into questions of personal mistakes, faith and accountability.
What the EP Is About
The central idea behind “Born Sinner” is the conflict between human imperfection and the desire to become better. Kudos does not present himself as someone who has everything figured out. Instead, he acknowledges mistakes, pressure and uncertainty while continuing to pursue his goals.
“Grace” connects his hustle with gratitude and faith, presenting progress as something that requires both personal effort and divine favour. In “Letter to God,” the rapper reflects on stress, pain and his determination to build a better future rather than return to the life he previously knew.
The title track concept becomes particularly clear through “Sinner.” Kudos recognises his flaws while still asking for protection and blessings as he continues his journey. “Forgive Me” takes that idea further, openly confronting past mistakes and asking God for forgiveness.
This gives the EP a progression from ambition and gratitude to self-examination and repentance. The project feels less like a collection of unrelated songs and more like a personal conversation about trying to succeed without ignoring the struggles and mistakes that come along the way.
