About the Album
“Catch Me If You Can” is the fourth studio album by Nigerian singer and songwriter Adekunle Gold, released on February 4, 2022. The 14-track project was released through Afro Urban Records and features collaborations with Davido, Ty Dolla $ign, Stefflon Don, Fousheé, Lucky Daye and Fatoumata Diawara.
The album represents another stage in Adekunle Gold’s evolution from the Yoruba-influenced highlife sound of his early career toward a broader Afropop identity. Rather than treating the project as a direct continuation of Afro Pop Vol. 1, Gold developed it as its own body of work, reflecting his changing perspective on life, success and personal freedom.
The Sound
Catch Me If You Can combines contemporary Afropop with elements of R&B, highlife, Amapiano and other African rhythmic influences. Gold’s melodic songwriting remains central, while the production uses modern bass lines, percussion, electronic textures and softer R&B arrangements to create different moods across the album.
Songs such as “Mercy,” “One Woman,” “Mase Mi” and “More Than Enough” connect some of Gold’s earlier musical influences with his newer pop direction. Other records explore more intimate territory, including the romantic “Sinner,” “Sleep” and “Dior Dior Dior.”
What the Album Is About
The album explores growth, self-confidence, love, independence, fulfilment and the freedom to live according to one’s own values. Gold presents himself as an artist who has moved beyond the expectations attached to his earlier identity and is increasingly comfortable defining his own path.
The title also reflects that attitude. Gold described his discography as an adventure game, with Catch Me If You Can representing another level in that journey. The project therefore carries a strong sense of movement, personal discovery and confidence in what comes next.
There is also a clear balance between celebration and vulnerability. Tracks such as “High” and “One Woman” embrace romance and pleasure, while “It Is What It Is” and “Selah” turn inward, dealing with acceptance, difficult experiences and the desire for peace. This mixture gives the album a broad emotional range without losing its central focus on Gold’s evolving identity.
