Victor AD – Nothing To Prove

About the EP

“Nothing To Prove” is a six-track EP by Nigerian Afropop singer and songwriter Victor AD, released on July 30, 2021 through Red Eye. The project features Mr Eazi, Phyno and Tanzanian singer Lava Lava, giving Victor AD room to explore different sides of his songwriting while maintaining the emotional and motivational qualities associated with his music.

The EP arrived as an important stage in Victor AD’s career following the success of “Wetin We Gain.” Rather than focusing on one subject, the project moves between confidence, love, friendship, personal struggles and the determination to keep progressing.

The Sound

Nothing To Prove combines Afropop, Afrobeats and Amapiano influences, with production that shifts according to the mood of each song. The project features contributions from producers including Kulboy and Vypo, while Swaps, Millamix and Extraordinaire handled aspects of the engineering.

The opening track, “Black” featuring Mr Eazi, carries a confident and assertive tone. “Anymore” featuring Phyno moves into relationship territory, using a more emotional arrangement to explore a romance that is falling apart.

The EP becomes more rhythm-driven on “Olofofo,” which incorporates Amapiano elements, while “One Kiss” takes a softer romantic direction. The closing track, “Joanna” featuring Lava Lava, adds a melodic East African influence through its percussion and vocal collaboration.

What the EP Is About

The central idea behind “Nothing To Prove” is self-belief and personal resilience. Victor AD presents himself as an artist who has experienced setbacks but remains determined to keep moving forward. The title reflects that confidence, while several songs still reveal the pressure involved in proving oneself in a competitive music industry.

“Bless Boys” focuses on generosity and the responsibility that comes with success. Victor AD addresses people who have achieved financial stability and encourages them to remember those around them who are still struggling.

Love and vulnerability form another important part of the project. “Anymore” examines the breakdown of a relationship, while “One Kiss” and “Joanna” present a warmer and more affectionate side of the singer.

There is also a strong sense of perseverance throughout the EP. Victor AD’s writing connects everyday struggles with ambition, making the project feel personal without being limited to one experience. Audiomack describes the EP as a project centred around love, light, joy and life, which captures the broad emotional range running through its six tracks.

Nothing To Prove gives listeners a compact picture of Victor AD’s artistic direction at the time, combining motivational themes, romantic songwriting and contemporary Nigerian rhythms into one cohesive project.
