About the Song
“JUJU” is a high-energy collaboration between Smur Lee, ODUMODUBLVCK and Shallipopi, released in August 2024. The record brings together three artists with distinctly expressive styles, creating a short but energetic track built around catchy phrases, bold deliveries and a strong Nigerian street-pop identity. It was released through NATIVE Records and quickly became one of the notable collaborative records associated with the artists during that period.
The Sound
The song runs on a fast-moving Afropop foundation with rhythmic percussion and an infectious groove. Smur Lee establishes the record’s character, while ODUMODUBLVCK brings his forceful rap delivery and Shallipopi adds his unmistakable street-pop presence.
The production keeps the arrangement compact, allowing the different vocal personalities to stand out without making the song feel crowded. The result is a lively record suited to parties, social gatherings and playlists built around contemporary Nigerian street sounds. Its energetic presentation also helped make “JUJU” a track that translated naturally into visual and performance settings.
What the Song Is About
“JUJU” takes a playful and confident approach to attraction, lifestyle and social energy. The performers use humour, slang and exaggerated expressions to create an entertaining picture of their interactions and experiences.
Rather than relying on a complicated storyline, the song focuses on personality and atmosphere. Each artist brings a different flavour to the record, with the back-and-forth performances helping to maintain its momentum. The title adds to the song’s playful character, while the lyrics draw from familiar Nigerian expressions and street culture.
The collaboration also reflects the growing connection between Afropop, rap and Nigeria’s alternative street music scene. Smur Lee, ODUMODUBLVCK and Shallipopi occupy different spaces within that landscape, and “JUJU” brings those styles together in a compact, highly energetic record.
