About the Song
“Tested, Approved & Trusted” is one of the standout records from Burna Boy’s 2023 album, I Told Them…. The song presents a more playful and sensual side of the Nigerian superstar, combining his Afro-fusion style with dancehall-inspired rhythms and a catchy repeated refrain. The original album version was released in August 2023, before the song was reissued as a single in April 2024.
The Sound
The production gives “Tested, Approved & Trusted” a smooth, mid-tempo groove with clear dancehall influence. Adrian X and Yeti Beats are credited as producers, while saxophone performed by Samson “Bishop” Olaniyan adds another musical layer to the arrangement.
Burna Boy keeps his delivery relaxed and confident, allowing the rhythm to carry much of the song’s energy. The repeated hook gives the record its identity, while the combination of Afrofusion, dancehall and pop elements makes it easy to fit into party, nightlife and summer playlists.
What the Song Is About
The song revolves around attraction, chemistry and physical confidence. Burna Boy describes being captivated by a woman’s presence and dancing, turning the record into a playful exchange built around flirtation and desire.
The phrase “tested, approved and trusted” functions as the song’s central idea. Burna Boy uses it as a confident expression of his attraction and his belief that the connection between himself and the woman is genuine. The record is less concerned with a detailed romantic story and more focused on the excitement of being drawn to someone.
That approach gives the song a carefree quality. Burna Boy combines flirtatious lyrics with a rhythmic groove designed for movement, creating a track that works more through atmosphere and personality than through a complex narrative.
The song’s popularity also led to additional versions, including a remix featuring Trinidadian artist Prince Swanny and a Major League DJz mix, expanding its dancehall and club-oriented character.
