Bukola Elemide, who goes by the stage name Asa, is said to have sent a copyright infringement notice to Joseph Akinfenwa, aka Joeboy, about his new song “Contour.”
Elemide, a Nigerian-French singer, songwriter, and recording artist, asked Joeboy to take the song down from all digital streaming platforms (DSPs) and any other platforms within 24 hours of receiving her letter, pay N300 million, and apologize in writing.
Joeboy posted the notice on Monday to his Instagram story.
The singer also asked for a 60 percent publishing split on the song through her management.
The notice from September 30 said, “It has been brought to our attention that your newly released song, Contour (the “Song”), infringes on the copyright of our Client, as recorded/captured in a musical composition (the “Composition”) which she created in a recording session, which took place on September 22, 2020, with the producer of the Song, Alageu Michael Chidozie (p.k.a. Tempoe), in attendance.
“We demand that within twenty-four(24) hours of receiving this letter, you take the Song off of all DSPs and other platforms. You must also send a written apology to our Client and stop any further infringements of our composition, including any other infringements.
On his Instagram story, Joeboy talked about the suit and said that people seemed to want to take him for a ride because he was quiet.
Even though he dared Asa’s bosses to go to court, he reminded them that the 24-hour notice had already passed. “Because I always love and do light things, you think I’m soft meat. You told me I had 24 hours, but it’s been 48 hours, so do something.”
