Barry Jhay – Son Of God

About the EP

“Son of God” is a seven-track project by Nigerian singer and songwriter Barry Jhay, released on March 4, 2022 through Bang Hits Music. The project features Kuami Eugene on “Right By You” and Zlatan on the remix of “Ayewada.”

The project presents Barry Jhay as an artist interested in more than straightforward entertainment. Across the seven tracks, he reflects on his experiences, ambitions, relationships and spiritual outlook while maintaining the melodic approach that has become central to his music.

The Sound

Son of God blends Afropop, contemporary Afrobeats, Fuji-inspired melodies and Amapiano elements. The production changes depending on the subject of each song, allowing Barry Jhay to move between motivational records, personal storytelling, romantic songs and more celebratory moments.

The opening track, “Level Up,” introduces a determined tone, while “Story” takes a more personal approach to his journey and the challenges that came before his success. “Agege” brings a more playful and street-oriented energy, while “Whine My God?” adds another rhythmic dimension to the project.

The collaborations also broaden the sound. Kuami Eugene brings a Ghanaian highlife and Afropop influence to “Right By You,” while Zlatan adds his energetic street-pop delivery to the “Ayewada” remix.

What the EP Is About

A major theme across “Son of God” is perseverance. Barry Jhay repeatedly looks back at difficult periods and the effort required to move forward. “Story,” in particular, takes the form of a personal account of struggle, ambition and the desire to build a better life.

Faith is equally important to the project. The title itself establishes a spiritual dimension, while the closing track, “Bless Me,” turns directly toward prayer and the desire for divine guidance and favour. This gives the EP a clear emotional progression from hustle and personal experience toward gratitude and faith.

There is also room for lighter subjects. “Right By You” focuses on love and reassurance, while “Ayewada” carries a more celebratory feeling associated with overcoming setbacks and enjoying progress. Audiomack’s description of the project similarly highlights its combination of hustle, storytelling, love, celebration and faith.

Son of God therefore feels like a compact portrait of Barry Jhay at that stage of his career. It brings together the street influences, melodic songwriting and spiritual themes that give his music its distinctive character.
