About the Album
“Theta” is the tenth studio album by Nigerian singer, songwriter and alternative music artist Brymo, released on May 27, 2022. The 10-track project is one of his most focused works, built around observations of human behaviour, personal experiences and the struggles that shape everyday life. Brymo described Theta as a study of humanity’s struggles and a view into what might have been.
Unlike many of his earlier projects, Theta is performed entirely in Nigerian Pidgin, allowing Brymo to communicate its ideas in a language that feels direct, conversational and deeply connected to everyday Nigerian expression.
The Sound
Theta draws from folk, alternative music, sentimental ballads, quiet storm and Afrobeat influences. All ten tracks were produced by Bigfoot, creating a consistent sonic environment throughout the album.
The production often uses restrained percussion, piano-driven arrangements and understated instrumentation. Instead of relying heavily on elaborate production changes, the music leaves room for Brymo’s voice and storytelling to remain the main focus.
Songs such as “Illusions,” “Pim Pim,” “Love Na Drug” and “Life Dey Go On” demonstrate the album’s quieter and more reflective side, while “Dem No Born Us Together” introduces a stronger Afrobeat influence. “Oga” takes the project in a more unconventional direction, while “Tomorrow” brings a brighter and more hopeful energy.
What the Album Is About
The heart of “Theta” is its examination of human life and the decisions people make. Brymo approaches subjects such as ambition, survival, relationships, hypocrisy, social pressure and personal responsibility from different perspectives rather than presenting one straightforward narrative.
“Illusions” opens the album with a story-driven reflection on the dangers of following attractive promises without understanding what came before. “Pim Pim” focuses on individual judgement and the importance of thinking carefully before allowing outside voices to determine one’s direction.
The album also explores differences between people. “Dem No Born Us Together” considers the fact that everyone has a separate path, while “Money Good” examines the attraction and complications associated with financial success. “Life Dey Go On” takes a more contemplative look at the uncertainty of existence, while “Tomorrow” introduces hope and the possibility of better days.
Love and human connection receive attention through “Love Na Drug” and the closing track “For You.” These songs bring a more intimate dimension to a project otherwise heavily concerned with society, choices and survival.
What makes Theta particularly distinctive is the combination of simple language and serious subject matter. Brymo does not depend on complicated vocabulary to communicate his ideas. The directness of the Pidgin delivery allows the stories and observations to remain accessible while leaving room for listeners to interpret the deeper meaning for themselves.
