DJ Neptune – Greatness 2.0 (Album)

About the Album

“Greatness 2.0” is the second studio album by Nigerian DJ and producer DJ Neptune, released on November 26, 2021 through Neptune Records under exclusive licence to emPawa Africa. The 16-track project runs for about 49 minutes and brings together a wide range of Nigerian and African artists, including Rema, Joeboy, Omah Lay, Patoranking, Adekunle Gold, Bella Shmurda, Phyno, Simi, Peruzzi, Focalistic, Stonebwoy, Yemi Alade, Harmonize, Lojay, Zlatan, Laycon, Ladipoe, Waje, Cheque, Blaqbonez and Kofi Jamar.

The album follows DJ Neptune’s 2018 project Greatness and was designed as an expansion of the sound and collaborative approach established on that record. Its tracklist moves through different styles and moods while maintaining Neptune’s role as the producer and musical director bringing the artists together.

The Sound

Greatness 2.0 is built around contemporary Afropop and Afrobeats, but its production reaches into Amapiano, R&B, hip-hop, Ghanaian drill and other African influences. The variety comes largely from the different artists and producers involved, allowing each collaboration to develop its own identity.

The project opens with “Rise Up” featuring Laycon, Waje and Ladipoe, establishing an aspirational tone before moving into records such as “Do and Undo,” “Cupid,” “For You” and “Gaza.” Later tracks explore romance, nightlife, ambition and celebration.

Several collaborations stand out for their cross-border character. “Hustle” brings together DJ Neptune and South African artist Focalistic, while “Shitto” combines Stonebwoy, Yemi Alade and One Acen. “My Woman” connects Harmonize and Anjella, adding an East African dimension to the project.

What the Album Is About

The album explores ambition, love, hustle, celebration, relationships and the pursuit of success. DJ Neptune explained that records such as “On God” speak to the journey of artists trying to establish themselves and the importance of perseverance when opportunities do not come easily.

“Hustle” focuses on working toward financial progress while still taking care of the people who matter, while “Recipe” takes a more playful and party-oriented direction. “Love Potion,” “Ololufe,” “My Woman” and “For You” bring romance into the project, giving it a softer side.

The album also demonstrates DJ Neptune’s strength as a collaborator. Rather than relying on one dominant sound, he creates a musical platform where different artists can bring their own styles to the production. The result is a broad snapshot of contemporary African popular music during the period in which the album was released.

The closing track, “Nobody,” reunites DJ Neptune with Joeboy and Mr Eazi. The song had already become a major part of Neptune’s catalogue before being included on the album, giving Greatness 2.0 a familiar closing moment.
